Starbucks Aids in Americas Fight To Get Fatter
AMERICA'S QUEST FOR FATDOM RAGES ON...
I hope you were as stunned by the news as I was, but Tuesday, January 18, Starbucks announced that it will now provide American with the new "Trenta cup size".
The new sized cup will be 31 oz, which, are you sitting down........IS ALMOST A WHOLE QUART!
You can click on the link below to read the whole story, but I just had to comment on this. When will it be enough America? Do you need a full quart of ANYTHING on the go? Is anyone whipping up a batch of homemade cookies in Hummer they just pulled up in?
Seriously. When is all to much? We are actually far beyond "too much" at this point. This land is a beautiful place. America! I am proud to be here. Along with the freedoms came gluttony. We've forgotten to put the fork down. We have yet to realize that our bodies are not meant to consume mass quantities of anything. Our bodies are built for survival and to be gluttonous should be a reward. Not everyday practice.
You can agree with me or hate me, but the truth is in our faces. America is fat. Americans are dying, from being fat. And the big corporate conglomerates are profiting from it. It is really sad to think that the only way most of these people are going to wake up is when there dead.

New Video Uploaded! Check Out Some Very Fast Off Road Racing Footage From National Televised C.O.R.R.
Here is a video i shot and produced for 4 Wheel Parts a couple years ago. The #1 thing to take into consideration here is the fact that this entire video was shot in 2 days, with one person and one very tired camera. All in all it turned out pretty good, the president of 4 wheel parts, and featured racer, Greg Adler was happy with the video, and I had a blast doing it.
There are a few things in life that have scared the hell out of me doing. And many of those things I would do again in a heart beat. The first was skydiving. Not the strapped in to another person kind. I'm talking "lets get our skydiving license" kind of skydiving. Another was standing in the middle of a dirt race track, filming 800 Horsepower, $100,000 dollar trophy race trucks, flying by you at 100 miles per hour and flying through the air without wings.
Its a video unlike any other you will find online. Its pretty self explanatory i think. I just wanted to show the feeling of racing. What a racers mind looks like, and what it takes to have balls as big as these boys.
Enjoy.

Free Your Mind - A Commercial Free World
The days of flipping from radio station to radio station to radio station, trying to find music, is over. Well, its not over, but I don't have to put up with it anymore. Guess what! Neither do you. Satellite Radio / SiriusXm is here.
If you have yet to experience the magic that is Satellite Radio, then do yourself a favor and FREE YOUR MIND! Free your mind of the constant advertising. Free your mind and explore new worlds of music and entertainment. Free your mind and immerse yourself in the reading of a great book. Instead of being enamored with commercial after commercial after commercial, tune into the Comedy Channel and laugh.
The world that is Satellite radio is in essence, freedom. Yes. It does cost money, but the old adage "freedom isn't free" will make you realize that if for only a few bucks a month you can fill your mind with anything your little heart desires, its a price well worth the freedom.
For most of my adult life I was forced like everyone else to listen to Terrestrial Radio. A few songs, a witty DJ with a few minutes of interesting banter, followed by commercial after commercial. BUY THIS CAR! CLEAR YOUR PIMPLES! BUY THIS DRUG. NO WAIT. THIS DRUG.
I cant count how many times I've been in my car, going from point A to point B, without hearing one song. Even if the trip was 20 minutes, it was 20 minutes of non stop commercials. And forget about decent talk radio. It just cant be found on Terrestrial Radio. As soon as there was an option to break free from the non stop advertising banter, I took it. No more would I be bound to "rocking out" to a Living Spaces Commercial on the way to work. If I want to rock out in my car on the way to work, I want to do it right now. I don't want to wait. When the mood strikes and I want to catch up on last nights sports scores, I want to be able to hear that right now. Not when and if the commercials ever end.
The point here is simple. "Freedom Isn't Free". It never has nor will it ever be. And the price I pay for SiriusXm and Satellite Radio a month is quite small compared to my sanity and the well being of others on the road. My mornings now consist of coffee and a smoke with Howard Stern. Many morning consist of banging my head furiously to Metal as I get the previous nights cobwebs out of my head and prepare for the day. "What was the score of the laker game." Oh that's right, let me tune into one of the many awesome sports channels to find out. Its all there. Non stop music, books, talk, sports, comedy and so much more. What do you want with your coffee and drive to / from work? How about a good book or some Christina Aguilera?
Whatever, whenever, however you want it, its there. I took the leap and set my mind free in January 2007. I can't even explain to you how it changed my life. No more commercials, no more constant yammering to buy this, i need that, donate today, invest now, rates are lower than ever.... AAAHHHHHH STOP! And it did. All for $12 little bucks a day. So I ask you.... What is freedom of the mind worth to you? When will you break free of advertising and fill your mind with what makes you an individual? Commercials and advertising aren't who you are, so why support that medium any longer?

My Rants On Chase's New Account Fees Get's Picked Up By The Los Angeles Daily News. Here Is the Interview
Greg Wilcox: Banks target the little guy to recoup losses
Posted: 12/26/2010 12:00:00 AM PST
Changes in the financial regulatory environment have empowered banks to levy a paupers fee.
At least, that's how Christopher Petrini sees it. He offers this poignant perspective on his new financial reality.
"Chase Bank will be charging my wife and I each $10 a month, basically for being poor," said Petrini, 32. Beginning Feb. 8, Petrini and his wife each will be charged a $10 service fee because they cannot afford to keep a minimum $1,500 average daily balance in their checking accounts or meet the other requirements to avoid the surcharge.
Petrini, a marketing director who lives in Redondo Beach, and other Chase customers nationwide have been receiving letters informing them of the fee. "Your letter was basically a slap in the face to my wife and I," he wrote in an e-mail to the bank. "Your letter, in essence, is telling us what failures we are in life." The economy is tough enough, Petrini said, and now he and his wife, a waitress, have to pay Chase for the privilege of handling their money.
"We're like everyone else, just struggling to make it and living paycheck to paycheck," he said.
The Petrinis have a lot of company, as banks and other financial institutions scramble to generate additional revenue to replace what they think will be lost due to changes in the regulatory environment.
"We all know that this has been a time tremendous fluctuation in the industry primarily because of regulatory changes," said Carol Kaplan, a spokeswoman for the American Bankers Association.
Regulators have clamped down on two significant revenue streams - overdraft charges and interchange charges, which is what they charge retailers and others for processing credit and debit card purchases.
For example, last summer a regulation was implemented that requires banks to ask customers if they wanted to pay an overdraft charge in order to cover a transaction made on an account with insufficient funds. So-called overdraft protection had previously been extended by many banks as a matter of course.
Moebs Services, an economic research firm, said banks collected $35.4.1 billion in overdraft fees in 2008 and $37.1 billion in 2009. Because banks are unsure how the new regulations will impact their revenue, they're imposing new fees to cover their costs. For example, the association said it costs $150 to $200 to open an account and $250 to $300 annually to maintain it. And a bank needs a average daily balance of at least $1,200 to break even on a checking account.
Chase spokesman Gary Kishner says there are a number of ways to qualify for free checking, such as making a direct deposit of at least $500 once a month. An estimated 93 percent of retirees drawing a Social Security check meet that qualification, he said. "We have to continue to look at all of our products and sometimes changes have to be made," Kishner said.
Petrini knows all about that. He's looking for a new bank.
"I'm doing my best to get out of there," he said of Chase. "I'm trying to find a smaller bank, not a big conglomerate."

Turning Abandoned Online Shopping Carts Into Cold Hard Cash
Movies Unlimited Gives Cart-Abandonment Email Campaign Rave Reviews
Sep 6, 2010 12:57 PM, By Sherry Chiger
A direct seller of DVDs, Movies Unlimited had a 75% Website cart-abandonment rate. “People are just looking around and shopping,” says general manager Ed Weiss. “They’re just testing the waters.”
To salvage some of these lost sales—nearly 28,000 orders each month—Movies Unlimited worked with email marketing solutions provider Listrak to implement a triggered email campaign. Twenty-four hours after a visitor abandoned a shopping cart, he would receive a personalized email, complete with photos of the items left behind. If the visitor didn’t complete the purchase after that initial email, he’d receive a follow-up five days later. The primary call to action was to complete the purchase; a secondary call to action allowed the shopper to save the items in the cart for a future purchase.
When launching the campaign, Weiss and Listrak CEO Ross Kramer decided to conduct an A/B test: Some visitors would receive an offer of $5 off their order of $25 or more; others would receive no offer.
The initial emails without the offer (subject line: “Your movies are waiting for you, [first name]”) had higher read and click-through rates than those with the offer (subject line: “Save $5.00 on your order, [first name]”). Whereas the nonoffer messages had a 41.4% read rate and a 25.2% click-through rate, those with the offer had a 33.9% read rate and a 21.1% click-through rate. Neither Weiss nor Kramer is certain as to why the offer garnered a lower initial response than the nonpromotional message, though Kramer speculates “one thing may be that people are inundated with offers, whereas the other message was wrapped in mystique.”
“The nirvana of email is a subject line that’s intriguing without being spamming,” Weiss adds.
For the follow-up emails, however, the offer pulled better: a 70.5% read rate vs. 68.1% for the nonpromotional email, and a 43.7% click-through rate vs. 36.2% for the nonpromotional message.
Most important, the messages with the offer resulted in 26% more transactions and 36% more movies ordered than the nonpromotional offers, bringing in 14% more revenue.
All told, the campaign, which paid for itself within one month, has generated a 500% return on investment. It has an overall conversion rate of 13% and accounts for 10% of Movies Unlimited’s email revenue, despite making up just 0.2% of its email volume.
“If you can catch someone in a transaction mode while they’re interacting with a website,” Kramer says, “you can get some incredible advice.”
So far Movies Unlimited has been able to use the trigger campaign on only about 12% of visitors who abandon carts, as it doesn’t capture the email address of the majority of those who leave without completing their transaction. “You can’t get every email address,” says Weiss, who notes that his site doesn’t follow visitors with cookies. “I wish we could get all of them.”
Because the initial cadence of the emails was “a guess,” Kramer says, they’re continuing to test the timing of the initial message. Rather than sending the first message 24 hours after abandoning the cart, Movies Unlimited is testing sending it one hour after abandonment vs. six hours after. So far the six-hour wait time has the highest conversion rate, at 19% for the messages with the offer, though Kramer says the companies are “still in data-gathering mode.”
Implementing the trigger campaign required very little effort on the part of Movies Unlimited, Weiss says. Not a lot of recoding was necessary, and Listrak took care of what was. He dubs launching this sort of cart-abandonment program “a no-brainer. It’s very little overhead, and you get a lot back on your investment. It’s astonishing.”

Surfing Photography. This is beauty!
The Power of Surf (5 photos)
Crystal Thornburg surfing in Central California.
Surf trips come up rapidly, as quick as the swells that show up on surf maps, and the photographers and editors who cover them very seldom have a lot of time to plan their work. Grant Ellis has been the photo editor for Surfer Magazine for almost seven years. He started as a surf photographer and followed professional surfers around the world for three years, having surfed from the age of 8. Surfer works with a large number of photographers and surfers to find and produce the stunning images in the magazine.
Ellis says that he can track the swell as it moves across the Pacific or Indian oceans through the emails from his photographers around the world. And if big waves are the greatest thrill in surfing, getting an image in Surfer’s Big issue is the ambition of most surf photographers.
Because surf images reflect the many nuances of light and water, editors at Surfer do rounds and rounds of color proofing to make certain each image is just right. The wave comes through, and they do their best to catch it.
Pictured here is a selection from Surfer’s Big issue.

www.adigitalmind.com is up and rockin...
Finally! Its "done". Is it? I guess it will never be done. I saw a good friend today! A designer and production artist who's career I truly admire. He's been a mentor in my career and thinking back to our conversation today, if I was "done" with my website, then I should get out of the design business.
Websites today need content. You can never be done with your website. If so, sales slow and the phone will not ring. Once you get your site up or are "done" with your website, that is when the fun can begin. Consistently adding new content to your site is somewhat addicting. Photo's, information, tech specs all equal content and help your site grow in terms of SEO and search list popularity.
I'm sitting here thinking of it. My website is up. Content is king and its there for the world to see. Will anyone search for my website? Sure. People looking for local designers in the area or other artists who will come to my site for ideas. I'm excited that www.adigitalmind.com is up and running! Like i said before, now the fun begins. Adding content and further teaching myself about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Blogging, Flicker and other Social Networking Sites. I used to be scared to death of the web, but its not that hard. Nothing is difficult if you have a passion to learn... and the link to my brain is www.adigitalmind.com
